Police release sketch of suspect in Houston rapper’s fatal shooting

Houston police released the sketch of a man suspected of fatally shooting a local rapper last week at his apartment near Acres Homes, according to authorities.

The unidentified man is wanted in the death of 30-year-old Marlon Gomez, aka rapper EMG Santana, who was shot in a crowded parking lot at his apartment complex at 4702 Magnum, police said

The suspect was seen leaving the scene in a red vehicle, possibly a Ford Taurus X SUV with spray-painted rims, police said.

Gomez was featured on the song “Score” on Slim Thug’s new album “King of the Nawf,” which was released July 26. Following the news of his death, Slim Thug joined several local rappers who shared their condolences on social media.

“#Score is one of my favorite songs off [the album],” Slim Thug said at the time on Instagram, adding that they were planning on shooting the music video soon.

Gomez’s mother, Angela Hawkins, previously told the Chronicle that her son had been making music for more than a decade in Houston. She said he loved performing free shows for a younger audience at the local Boys and Girls Club, as well as colleges and high schools.

He also hosted an annual back-to-school block party, giving away free school supplies for kids in the Acres Homes area, she said.

“He was the kind of kid that you would want to be your kid,” she said. “Very respectful. He earned respect and he showed it so well.”

Anyone with information about the shooting suspect’s identity is urged to call HPD Homicide at 713-308-3600 or give an anonymous tip to CrimeStoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS.
