Police seek driver who menaced officers at Dallas crime scene, prompting one to fire weapon

Police are seeking the driver who sped toward officers working an overnight crime scene in Dallas’ Wynnewood North area, prompting one of the officers to fire his weapon.

The incident took place about 12:49 a.m. Saturday in the 2500 block of Vernon Avenue, where two uniformed officers with a marked squad car were securing the scene after a previous incident.

According to Dallas Police spokesman Demarquis Black, officers had closed several lanes of the roadway to facilitate the investigation, leaving traffic to pass in the far right lane.

A gray BMW sedan approached the scene, he said, moving erratically before turning onto Illinois Avenue, then returned a short time later driving in the closed lanes.

One of the officers shined a flashlight at the BMW, attempting to motion it toward the open lane. However, the vehicle did not stop and continued to move toward the officer, who took evasive action to avoid being hit as the second officer fired his weapon at the vehicle an unspecified number of times.

The vehicle sped off and has not been located.

As per department policy, the officer who fired his weapon has been placed on routine administrative leave, and the incident remains under investigation.
