Power outages, fallen trees, and minor flooding reported across the Houston area

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Power outages, fallen trees, and flooding were all that was left of strong thunderstorms that passed through the area overnight.

In a northeast Fort Bend County portion of southwest Houston, a large tree blocked one residential street and left a home damaged on West Ridge Creek Dr.

A Fort Bend resident explains how her and her children felt experiencing the severe weather overnight.

“It was horrific. I looked outside in my backyard and my gazebo was spinning around and I just immediately started screaming for everybody in the house to get down, get under the bed,” one resident said. “I didn’t have time to tell them to get in the bathtub. I have a disabled aunt, so I just went and laid on top of her because we didn’t know what was going on.”

Thousands were also left in the dark thanks to power outages in the region.

Centerpoint Energy reported as many as 33,000 customers were without power earlier this morning.

According to their map, the outages were spread throughout the area, with concentrations in Rosenberg, Santa Fe, Missouri City and Houston’s southside.

Storms Friday evening also caused severe street flooding across the area.
