Records: 40 arrested in Laredo on DWI charges during May 2019

Authorities arrested 40 people on DWI charges in May 2019, according to records released by the Laredo Police Department.

The first DWI conviction carries a punishment of up to six months in jail, a $2,000 fine or both, a suspended driver’s license for up to a year and $1,000 or $2,000 for three years to retain the driver’s license, according to the Texas Department of Transportation

DWI arrests in May resulted in felony charges, the data shows.

Martha Josefina Dominguez and Claudia Elizette Leal were both charged with driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in prison.

Laredo Police reported 175 alcohol-related crashes in 2018, around a five percent increase since 2017.
