Scattered downpours Thursday, widespread storms this weekend

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Widely scattered downpours are possible Thursday and Friday ahead of a larger storm system this weekend. The weekend won’t be a complete washout, but widespread heavy storms are possible both Saturday and Sunday.

Thursday will start off sticky with lows in the 70s. As temperatures climb into the 80s, widely scattered downpours will pop up over southeast Texas. Similar weather is expected for Friday.

Chances for heavy thunderstorms will increase over the weekend as a large upper-level storm system blows over Texas.

The weekend storms could get heavy at times and drop 2-4″ over most of southeast Texas. Street flooding is most likely, but there could also be big rises on area bayous, creeks, and rivers. Saturday looks to be stormier than Sunday as the weather system makes it’s closest pass to us. It could rain anytime Saturday, but most of the storms should occur in the afternoon and evening. Another round of heavy storms is likely Sunday morning, but we should start to dry out as we head to Sunday evening as a weak front moves through.

This front will push through late Sunday and drop rain chances to 30% or less for much of next week.
