Suspect out on bond for capital murder charge arrested in carjacking at Houston apartment

Two men were arrested early Tuesday after leading police on a pursuit following a carjacking in northwest Houston, according to police.

Their names have not been released, but one of the suspects was reportedly out on bond for a capital murder charge in Harris County, police said. The other suspect had previous robbery convictions, police said.

Houston police first responded to the robbery around 1:30 a.m. at an apartment in the 7000 block of Inwood Park. Responding officers learned that a woman was coming home from work when two armed men approached her.

The men allegedly pistol whipped her and stole her Jeep. Police later saw the vehicle leaving the area and called for backup.

The driver led police on a chase to the northeast area of town near Breland St. and Sandra St., where the driver lost control and struck a tree, police said.

The passenger was taken into custody, and police said they found a pistol in his pocket. The driver ran north across a bayou as officers set up a perimeter around the area, police said.

A police canine found the suspect hiding under a horse trailer in the area. Police said the dog bit the man, who was armed with a pistol that was stolen from a previous burglary, police said.

The driver was out on bond with the capital murder charge, and the passenger faced two previous robbery convictions, police said.

The woman who originally reported the robbery was not seriously injured, police said. Two Houston police cars crashed during the pursuit, but no officers were injured.

Investigators will consult with the Harris County DA’s Office on the possible charges.
