Weak front today, sunshine all week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Another mostly sunny day in store for your Sunday, though we will be a bit warmer and more humid than the weather we saw yesterday. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s this afternoon, but a weak cold front will move through this evening and bring a reinforcing shot of some slightly cooler and drier air for the start of next week.

Models are showing some very light rain along the front, which should move through the greater Houston area in the early evening, but we should be too dry at the surface to see much, if any, precipitation.

One downside to the fronts blowing in this nice weather is that we have to endure extremely high levels of ragweed pollen. Ragweed thrives in temperatures above 50 degrees, and it takes a freeze to finally kill off the weed. Our first freeze typically doesn’t occur until around the first week of December.

Tropical Storm Gamma has crossed over the Yucatan Peninsula and should meander around the southern Gulf of Mexico for the foreseeable future, we are not expecting any impacts in Texas. Another potential named storm is likely to form in the Gulf early next week, and it will bear watching, but at this time it also looks unlikely to impact SE Texas.
