Woman charged with killing 2 Plano residents admitted she stabbed them, fled grisly scene, affidavit says

One of the two women charged in the slayings of two Plano residents in their 70s confessed to police that she stabbed both of them, leaving a grisly scene for Plano police to discover after a traffic stop outside Waco led to her arrest, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit.

Carmen Moreno, 23, faces capital murder charges in connection with the November stabbing deaths of 72-year-old Jimmy Michael Farris and 71-year-old Theresa Ann Coomes, who were found Nov. 17 in Farris’ apartment in the 2300 block of Pebble Vale Drive.

Facing the same charges in the slayings is Cynthia Wingate, 29, who in jail records lists Moreno as her wife.

A McLennan County sheriff’s deputy pulled Wingate over that night in Bruceville-Eddy, about 20 miles south of Waco. Moreno, covered in blood, pulled up to the stop and asked if she could get Wingate’s wallet, according to the affidavit, which was released Monday.

Police detained Moreno to investigate why she had blood on her jacket, right leg and feet, the affidavit states.

During the traffic stop, Wingate first told authorities the car she was driving belonged to her grandparents. Later, she said it belonged to a friend, police wrote in the affidavit. Wingate was driving Farris’ car, and Moreno was driving Coomes’ car, police said.
