A 56-year-old woman is dead and four others wounded after a gun battle at a South Dallas car wash Sunday night, police say.
The incident happened shortly before 10 p.m. at Jim’s Car Wash, at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Myrtle Street, just a few blocks from Fair Park, according to Dallas police.
Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics took four people with gunshot wounds to Baylor University Medical Center. A woman, identified as Sheila Sanders, died from her injuries, police said. Three others are recovering.
A fifth person was taken to the hospital with injuries that appeared to come from being trampled by a crowd, police said
Police said they had not made arrests in connection to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
The shooting comes after a month in which police saw a spike in murders, leading them to boost the number of detectives in the homicide unit.
City leaders who see the business as a hub for crime have in the past attempted to use zoning rules to close the business. City Councilman Kevin Felder has described it as a “perpetual albatross, a perpetual negative.
