Three held for selling drugs in DHA, Clifton; 36kg hashish seized

KARACHI: Police on Sunday claimed to have busted a gang of alleged peddlers who supplied drugs to Clifton and Defence students, said South SSP Sheeraz Nazeer.

Acting on a tip-off, the Clifton police arrested three suspects named Taj Husain, Sajjad and Saif Rehman. The officer identified Taj as a ringleader of the gang. He hailed from Peshawar.

“This gang used to bring high quality drugs from Peshawar which was supplied to posh areas of the city owing to which the police were receiving complaints that even students of schools and colleges had become addicted.”

The police seized 36 kilograms of hashish, a 9mm pistol and cash from the suspects.

The South SSP revealed that they were planning to form teams to keep a watch on those drug peddlers who had been released from prisons and became active again in supply of drugs to students and others.

Rangers detain six suspects

The Pakistan Rangers Sindh on Sunday detained six suspects in various parts of the metropolis, said their spokesperson.

The paramilitary force conducted intelligence-based actions in Kharadar, Mauripur, Memon Goth and Gadap and apprehended the suspects identified as Mohammed Adil, alias Lamba; Awais, alias Annu; Mohammed Danish; Maisam Mehdi; Amshaid and Sheikh Umer.

The held suspects were involved in street crimes and robberies, added the official.

Man found shot dead in Korangi

A man allegedly having a criminal record was found shot dead in Korangi on Sunday, the Zaman Town police said.

They added that the body with one gunshot wound was found in Sector 51-L of Korangi 5-1/2.

The police said that it appeared that he had been gunned down somewhere and later on his body was thrown there.

The corpse was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

The victim was identified with the help of biometric verification system as 37-year-old Danish Haider, a resident of Landhi.

The police claimed that the deceased had a criminal record.

There were FIRs (300/2011) under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 324 (attempted murder), 34 (common intention) at the Quaidabad police station and another FIR (114/2005) under sections 392 (punishment for robbery) and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Gulberg police station registered against the dead suspect.

The police said that some cash and heroin were recovered from his pocket.
