Remembering Farrah Fawcett on the 10th anniversary of her death

Tuesday, we remember the late Farrah Fawcett 10 years after her death. The Hollywood star was best known for her role as Jill Munroe on hit TV show, “Charlie’s Angels.”

Fawcett was born on February 2, 1947, in Corpus Christi. She enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin in 1965. The following year, she moved to Los Angeles to begin acting

Her film credits include “The Burning Bed,””Logan’s Run”, “Saturn 3”, “The Cannonball Run”, “The Apostle”, and “Dr. T and the Women.”

Fawcett’s work earned her an Emmy Award and six Golden Globe Award nominations.

The icon, whose feathered hairstyle was a cultural phenomenon, was featured wearing a tight red swimsuit in a 1972 pinup poster, which sold nearly 12 million copies when it was released.

Fawcett married actor Lee Majors on July 28, 1973. The two divorced in 1982 and Fawcett began dating actor Ryan O’Neal. Fawcett and O’Neal had one son together, Redmond O’Neal.

In 2006, Fawcett was diagnosed with cancer.

Her fight against the disease is the focus of the two-hour special, “This is Farrah Fawcett,” which premiered in May.

Along with excerpts of Fawcett’s personal video dairies, the show featured interviews with her loved ones including O’Neal, Houston-born actress Jaclyn Smith, Alana Stewart, hairstylist Mela Murphy and photographer Bruce McBroom.

In one clip, Smith said Fawcett’s relationship with O’Neal was volatile and spontaneous. “It was everything that made a relationship not boring.”

In another clip, Stewart recalled how no one was prepared to hear Fawcett’s diagnosis.

“Farrah was the golden girl to everyone. It was such a shock to the whole world when she got cancer,” Stewart said. “It kind of goes to show you that cancer doesn’t play favorites.”

Fawcett passed away on June 25, 2009, in Santa Monica, California, with O’Neal and Stewart by her side. She was 62 years old
