LAHORE: Governor Chaudhry Sarwar has claimed that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf did not resort to horse-trading for getting Sadiq Sanjrani elected as Senate chairman and asserted that no lawmaker was given money to purchase loyalties for [Senate chairman] election.
Speaking to media persons at the 180th anniversary of Raja Ranjeet Singh here on Saturday, the governor said the opposition should avoid challenging the validity of Senate Chairman’s election and added that people of Pakistan had already stopped listening to opposition’s hue and cry for vested interests. He regretted that the opposition was now busy creating chaos by trying to make the Senate chairman controversial.
Acknowledging that it was the right of the opposition to bring a motion of no-confidence, the governor said he himself was a Senate member and personally knew that chairman [Senate] was an honest, upright, hardworking and able individual. He said Mr Sanjrani was carrying out his responsibilities with dedication. He said any move of no-confidence would just create disorder and chaos in the Senate.
Says 10,000 visas will be issued to Sikh pilgrims coming from India
Stating that Mr Sanjrani belonged to the already deprived province Balochistan, Mr Sarwar said the Senate chairman’s removal would prove to be injustice to the province of Balochistan.
“The PTI did not resort to horse-trading to form its government in federation and provinces,” he asserted and challenged the opposition to prove it otherwise. He said the PTI would be standing behind Sadiq Sanjrani and his detractors would soon face massive failure.
The governor said foolproof security arrangements had been made and all required facilities would be provided to the Sikh pilgrims coming from India on the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak. He said some 10,000 visas instead of 3,000 were being issued for Sikh pilgrims coming from India.
“Anyone, who may encounter any problem with the issuance of visa, can contact the Evacuee Trust property Board or the Governor’s House, Lahore, for redress of complaint,” he said.
Mr Sarwar said visas would be issued as per rules and regulations but no hurdle in the process would be tolerated.
The governor said Raja Ranjeet Singh’s rule was marked by equality, justice, tolerance and inclusivity. He said the justice system of Ranjeet Singh contained Shariat and Shastar at equal levels. “If the litigation related to Muslim, the dispute was used to be decided in the light of Islamic laws, whereas the Hindu personal laws regulated the affairs of Hindus as enshrined in Hindu scriptures,” he said.
Mr Sarwar said the Sikh organisations would be facilitated in organising seminars in Punjab University or any of the 60 universities across the province. He said the ETPB had also been instructed to open Gurdwara Babay di beri in Sialkot
ETPB chairman Dr Amir Ahmad, provincial parliamentary secretary for minorities Sardar Mahindar Paul Singh Veer Je, Pardhan Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Perbandhak Committee Sardar Tara Singh and other Sikh pilgrims coming from India and around the world were present on the occasion.
