Council for youth uplift to be set up

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has formally approved the launch of 33-member National Youth Council (NYC) for uplift of the youth of the country.

According to the decision, the programme patron-in-chief will be prime minister while chairman will be Usman Dar, Adviser to the PM on Youth Affairs, an official said.

He said it was a remarkable initiative to ensure active participation of young professionals in national development.

He said the scheme had been devised to economically empower the youth who were deprived of better livelihood and income opportunities.

He said prominent figures from various fields, including education, sports, religion, economy and arts, would be NYC’s part. He said a ghazi from Zarb-i-Azb military operation, Maj Tanveer Shafi, cricketers Hassan Ali and Sana Meer, actors Hamza Ali Abbassi and Mahira Khan and Samina Baig and Muniba Mizari would be part of the programme.

Ministers for youth affairs in all the provinces will be NYC’s part and national heroes and youth icons will also join the programme. He said the government was striving to bring changes to achieve empowerment of the youth.
