KU declares selection boards invalid

KARACHI: The Karachi University (KU) syndicate in a meeting held on Saturday declared the selection boards of the mass communication department null and void.

The meeting presided over by KU acting vice chancellor Prof Khalid Mahmood Iraqi in his secretariat also decided to rename the Institute of Sustainable Halophyte Utilisation after the late Prof Muhammad Ajmal Khan, the former vice chancellor of the university.

“The syndicate decided to declare the previous selection boards of the mass communication department null and void. The selection boards were held for the posts of lecturer and assistant professor on May 2, 2019.

“It also formed a six-member committee headed by the vice chancellor to look at the matters related to the applications received for the selection boards,” says a press release.

The syndicate in the light of a decision by “the National Accountability Bureau judge approved the dismissal of deputy executive engineer (electrical) Muhammad Naeem Akhtar from services”.

It constituted a three-member committee to upgrade the key performance indicator system aimed at improving performances of the university’s departments and centres.

The forum also approved a number of appointments, including that of Prof Samina Khalil as director of the Applied Economics Research Centre, Dr Naeem Ahmed as chairman of the Department of International Relations, Prof Shahina Naz as chairperson of the Department of Food Science and Technology and Dr Tanzeem ul Firdous as head of the Urdu department.

A number of irregularities were reported in the selection boards in a section of the press recently.
