3 Dallas officers fired after misconduct investigations

Three Dallas police officers were fired Thursday after hearings revealed separate cases of misconduct, including misuse of department equipment and driving while intoxicated, police said.

Harris was fired after an internal affairs investigation determined he violated the code of conduct while handling calls as a 911 call taker in 2017. He also caused false or inaccurate information to be entered into police records, officials said. Additionally, police said, Harris failed to notify a supervisor when a resident told him that another officer had violated department policies.

In a separate investigation, investigators determined Officer Sean Brown drove under the influence of alcohol in Rowlett in March. Rowlett police arrested him on a DWI charge.

A third internal affairs investigation determined Officer Jerry Tames was arrested in 2018 over allegations of family violence and harassment. In 2017, Tames used city equipment for non-department business and was involved in a disturbance that resulted in a police response, officials said.

The investigation determined Tames harassed someone in late July 2018 in multiple instances that resulted in a police response. He had previously driven a city vehicle without a valid driver’s license earlier that year, police said.

Each officer was fired for his actions. Harris and Tames joined the department in 2014, while Brown was hired in 2008.
