Pregnant CVS employee shot during robbery at store near SMU

A pregnant CVS employee was wounded Saturday morning when an armed robber opened fire at a store near Southern Methodist University.

University Park police officers were called to the store at 3012 Mockingbird Lane shortly after 6:30 a.m., police said. The employee was shot twice during the robbery.

Officials took the victim, who was eight months pregnant, to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, where she gave birth to her child, assistant chief Jim Savage said. The woman and her child were in critical but stable condition Saturday evening, Savage said.

Police did not identify her.

A second employee was in the CVS during the shooting but wasn’t injured.

Police are looking for a man described as 6 feet tall and wearing “heavy, dark” winter clothing with a hood. His race is unknown because his face was covered during the robbery, police said.

The gunman demanded money before shooting the employee. He ran away from the store empty-handed and headed east.
