Former Dallas Morning News photographer accused of indecency with a child

A former Dallas Morning News photographer was arrested in August on a charge of indecency with a child with sexual contact, The News has learned.

Court records obtained this week show David Leeson, 62, groped a 13-year-old girl on Aug. 5.

The News is not naming the victim because it generally doesn’t name victims of sex crimes. Dallas police arrested Leeson on Aug. 23 on the indecency charge, a second-degree felony, records show.

He joined The News in 1984. He won the Pulitzer Prize in photography in 2004 after being named a finalist in 1995 and 1986. Leeson left the News in 2008 as part of a newsroom buyout.

According to court records, he has no previous criminal history.

Neither Leeson nor his attorney responded to messages or phone calls seeking comment.

According to court records, Leeson was released on a $25,000 bond and ordered to make no contact with minors.
