Chase on Dallas North Tollway ends in crash near Galleria

Two people were seriously injured early Saturday after they fled from a state trooper on the Dallas North Tollway and crashed near the Galleria

The pursuit began about 4 a.m. on the northbound tollway when the trooper tried to stop a Mazda sedan for a traffic violation, said Sgt. Lonny Haschel, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.

The driver of the Mazda refused to pull over near the Forest Lane exit and instead fled north and exited the tollway. About a minute later, the Mazda ran a red light at the LBJ Freeway frontage road and collided with a Nissan pickup.

The impact flipped the Mazda, and both the driver and passenger were seriously injured. The pickup’s driver was not hurt, Haschel said.

Both suspects were taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital for treatment. Their names and conditions were not released.

The chase remains under investigation, and it wasn’t clear why the Mazda driver fled.
