Driver charged in fatal wrong-way collision in North Richland Hills Thursday morning

A 29-year-old woman has been charged after a wrong-way collision in which a teen was killed and three other people injured on eastbound Loop 820 in North Richland Hills early Thanksgiving morning.

Noemi Martinez is in North Richland Hills Jail on a charge of intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony. Bond has not yet been set.

The crash occurred about 5:15 a.m. on eastbound Loop 820 near Holiday Lane. Police say a black Chevy Tahoe entered the highway at an unknown entry point and drove into oncoming traffic, hitting two dark-colored SUVs and a light-colored car driven by Benjamin Casteneda, 17.

Casteneda was hospitalized in critical condition and later died of his injuries. A dog in the car was also killed.

Martinez, who police say was driving the Tahoe, was hospitalized in stable condition.
