Suspect arrested in fatal stabbing of 83-year-old woman in Irving

Police have arrested a suspect in the death of an 83-year-old woman who was found slain in Irving on Thursday.

Roy James Holden Jr., 43, is charged with capital murder, police said.

Officers responded about 6 p.m. to a call of an unconscious person in the 3000 block of East Cortez Court, where they found the body of Betty Thomas.

Thomas had multiple stab wounds and was dead when officers arrived, WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reported detectives as saying.

Authorities added that Holden knew the woman through his work for a utility service provider, the news station said.

WFAA quoted a statement released by a Spectrum spokesperson that read: “This is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts are with the victim and her family and friends. We are actively working with Irving police as they conduct their investigation.”
