Two teams probing attempt on NAB prosecutor’s life

ISLAMABAD: Two teams were constituted to investigate a recent attempt on the life of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor, police said.

The teams are headed by SP Rural Malik Naeem Iqbal and SP Investigation Dr Mustafa Tanveer. The teams are investigating the incident on different lines, including professional and personal enmity.

One of the teams from the Criminal Intelligence Agency is investigating the case on scientific and technical grounds. The other team from operation division is collecting evidence.

The incident took place on Tuesday night when NAB prosecutor Wasiq Hussain was returning home from bureau’s office in G-5, the police said.

On his complaint, a case was registered at Loi Bher police station, the police said.

Three bullet holes were also found on his vehicle, police said, adding forensic examination of the vehicle was conducted to establish the distance and angle from where the shots were fired.

The police also recovered bullet shells some yards away from the crime scene, they said.

Geo-fencing of the area was being carried out which would help the investigators establish whether the attackers were lying in wait for him or chased him from some other location, the police said.

Safe City Project was also approached by the investigators to get footages of cameras installed on the roads used by the NAB prosecutor, they said.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability Shahzad Akbar took notice of the incident.

In a statement, the special assistant strongly condemned the incident and sought a report from the department concerned.

Mr Akbar also contacted NAB Chairman to discuss the issue, it added.

He also contacted to police and Inspector General of Police, Islamabad and directed them to arrest the culprits immediately, the statement said, adding that he also assured all cooperation to the police.
