Police sweep Fort Worth mall after reports of person with weapon

Fort Worth police combed through the city’s Hulen Mall Thursday evening after reports of an individual with a weapon, but said they found no indication of an active threat.

“We do have multiple units on scene conducting a safety sweep of the entire mall,” said department spokesman Buddy Calzada.

He told the News there was no evidence of victims or injuries.

Earlier social media reports had claimed that an employee had heard gunshots, and individuals posted on Twitter saying that shoppers had fled the mall in a panic.

According to WFAA-TV (Channel 8), police said people had run into the mall and yelled that someone had a gun. One person at the scene told the station he thought it might have been a prank.

Police have not confirmed whether a gun actually was fired or even sighted.
