Rain chances begin today, with a chance of severe storms Friday

Clouds have returned to North Texas indicating more low-level moisture. That moisture will help to create a few showers and some areas of drizzle.

While we’ll be tracking those showers moving across North Texas today, it’s Friday that has more of our attention. It is looking more and likely that we will be dealing with a round of strong to severe thunderstorms as we go into the afternoon and evening hours.

While the severe weather outlook has the higher risk for severe storms from DFW to the east, all of North Texas will have to be weather aware on Friday. All modes of severe weather will be possible including hail, damaging winds, heavy downpours and a few tornadoes. Please don’t let your guard down if you’re in the slight or marginal risk areas. Keep tabs on the weather and make sure you have a plan should severe storms move into your area.

Once the storms exit, cold air will spill into the area late Friday into Saturday. Some very light showers may linger but the sky will clear out by the afternoon.
