Suspects at large after 8-year-old Texas boy shot while unloading groceries with stepfather

An 8-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen while unloading groceries in San Antonio, and police are searching for the persons believed to be responsible.

The incident took place about 5:30 p.m. in East San Antonio, where the boy and his stepfather were unloading their haul, San Antonio’s KABB-TV reported. Police say a silver van drove by and two people opened fire in a targeted shooting.

“We believe we know who’s responsible for this and why it happened but I’m not going to divulge that at this point,” San Antonio Police Chief William McManus told the news station, saying that the department’s violent crime apprehension team was actively searching for the suspects.

The boy was hospitalized in unknown condition.
