Trump tests negative for coronavirus, his doctor says

President Donald Trump has tested negative for coronavirus, according to his doctor.

Trump initially said he would not be tested, even after spending time in one of his Florida resorts where some guests produced positive test results for coronavirus, including members of a Brazilian political delegation.

“One week after having dinner with the Brazilian delegation at Mar-a-Lago, the president remains symptom-free,” Dr. Sean P. Conley said in a memo released to The New York Times.

Trump had multiple direct and indirect contacts with people who have since tested positive for the virus, including three people at Mar-a-Lago, the Associated Press reported.

The Brazilian Embassy in Washington said Friday that one official, Nestor Forster, tested positive after sitting at Trump’s dinner table. An aide to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro also came in close contact with Trump and tested positive, the AP reported.

Bolsonaro has said he has tested negative.

During a news conference on Friday in which he declared a state of emergency in the U.S., Trump said he “probably would” get tested after prodding from reporters.

Conley, Trump’s doctor, released his memo Saturday evening.

Vice President Mike Pence hasn’t been tested but said he’s thinking about it.

“I’m going to speak immediately after this press conference with the White House physician’s office,” Pence said Saturday, according to CNBC. “Mrs. Pence and I would be more than happy to be tested.”

Before Trump had been tested, White House staff had started to administer temperature checks for anyone who was in close proximity to the president and vice president, including reporters.

Trump decided to get tested Friday night, press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a news release.

“Last night after an in-depth discussion with the President regarding COVID-19 testing, he elected to proceed,” Grisham said.

Trump said he took the test “only because the press is going crazy,” CNN reported.
