12-year-old shot through wall at Haltom City home

A 12-year-old girl was shot early Monday at a Haltom City home, police say.

Officers were called to a house in the 5300 block of North Ira Street about 3:30 a.m. after the girl was shot in the back while she was in the bathroom.

The girl, whose name was not released, was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center in serious condition.

Police said a 20-year-old man in an adjacent bedroom fired a handgun into a closet. When the shot went through the wall and struck the girl, he fled the home, police said.

Authorities did not release the man’s name but said they had been in contact with him and were trying to get him to talk to police detectives.
