Employee at Irving Fiesta Mart tests positive for coronavirus

An Irving Fiesta Mart has said one of its employees recently tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

According to a statement Tuesday shared on its Facebook page, the 975 E. Irving Blvd. location of the Latino-American supermarket chain received documentation Monday that one of its workers had tested positive for COVID-19. The employee was reported to last have been at the store Sunday.

“Fiesta Mart remains committed as ever to supporting and strengthening our local communities,” the company said. “As an essential business with an essential workforce, we take our responsibilities to our local communities and employees very seriously and continue to take preventative measures on a proactive basis.”

Fiesta Mart said that it had addressed the matter with other employees at the Irving Boulevard location to ensure appropriate responses were taken, including self-quarantine as deemed necessary. It added that a specialist company had been hired to clean and sanitize the store before it reopened to the public.

The chain added that the employee “is doing well and “has our full support; we are hopeful for a speedy recovery.”

As of Thursday, Dallas County had confirmed 1,432 cases of COVID-19; Irving had at least 81 cases as of Tuesday. Stores and supermarkets including Fiesta Mart have been taking extra precautions to protect customers and employees such as distributing masks, increasing sanitation efforts and installing plexiglass shields at checkouts.
