AJK govt extends lockdown till April 24

MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has extended lockdown in the territory until April 24, an official spokesperson said on Monday.

Minister for Information Technology Dr Mustafa Bashir Abbasi, at a media briefing said that the government will announce its next strategy regarding the lockdown after holding consultations and reaching a consensus with political and religious leadership of the state on Wednesday in Kashmir House Islamabad.

He said that no new positive case had been reported in the state over the past 24 hours and the number of Covid-19 patients stood at 49.

As many as 16 patients have recovered, scaling down the number of active cases to 33, he said. “Hopefully, four more patients will be discharged on Tuesday,” he added.

He said that a coronavirus testing machine, installed in the virology lab of Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences Muzaffarabad had developed some software problem which has been addressed and the lab will resume functioning from Tuesday.

The government has promulgated a new law to curb hoarding and profiteering by punishing people involved in such an unlawful and unethical practice with fine and imprisonment, he said, adding AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider will take the cabinet on board on Tuesday with regard to measures related to the lockdown.
