Man faces manslaughter charge after shooting in Far East Dallas

A suspect is facing a manslaughter charge after he fatally shot another man Friday night in Far East Dallas, police said.

Luis Solis-Cuevas, 36, “recklessly fired a gun in the direction of” the victim, police said. The Dallas County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Darren Smith, 55.

Officers responded to the shooting about 10:50 p.m. in the 2900 block of Villa Sur Trail, near Shiloh Road and Santa Anna Avenue.

Police didn’t provide any details about what led to the shooting or whether the two men knew each other.
