1 person in custody after disturbance in far northeast Dallas leads to shots fired

One person was taken into custody Tuesday after a disturbance outside an apartment complex in far northeast Dallas led to shots being fired, Dallas police said.

Police said two groups were engaged in a disturbance just after 3 p.m. in the 9300 block of Skillman Street near Interstate 635. One of the groups got into a car and drove away after shots were fired, police said.

Two uniform Oak Ridge police officers, who were working off-duty at the complex, drove in a marked car after one of the groups. Then, the driver of the car rammed into the officer’s car, police said.

Police said one of the officers shot at and hit the suspect’s car with his duty weapon, and the suspect’s car wrecked.

The driver of the car ran from the scene and is at large, while the passenger surrendered and was taken into custody, police said.

There are no reported injuries, police said. The Dallas Police Department is investigating the incident.

It is unclear what charges will be filed in the incident. Police did not identify the person taken into custody.
