Record heat Tuesday, cooling storms for Memorial Day weekend

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — From record heat to cooling thunderstorms, big changes are coming to our weather this week. Monday’s high of 94 is our hottest so far this year, but Tuesday will be even hotter and could set a new record. The record high is 95-degrees set in 2008.

Wednesday will also bring record-challenging heat. A heat ridge and dry air are responsible for this hot weather. Travis says moisture will return Wednesday night as the heat ridge backs away, bringing high temperatures back down closer to 90 going into the weekend.

Memorial Day weekend will bring back a healthy chance for showers and thunderstorms. A large upper level low will develop and spin over Texas starting this weekend, bringing widely scattered downpours for Memorial Day and rain-cooled highs in the mid 80s.
