Richardson ISD plans employee raises, stipend for 2020-21 school year

Richardson ISD employees could receive a 1% pay raise in the coming school year, according to a recommendation discussed during Monday’s school board meeting. All employees would also receive a $750 retention stipend if they worked during the 2019-2020 school year and return in 2020-21.

The increase is conservative but falls in line with state budget projections, guidance from the Texas Education Agency, unemployment rates and the economic impact of COVID-19 on the community, Superintendent Jeannie Stone said.

During discussion, it was also noted that many other districts are offering a 1% to 1.5% raise for employees, along with a stipend.

Last year, Richardson ISD gave pay hikes ranging from 3.5% to 5%. The increase made Richardson competitive with what other districts are paying, Stone said.

The proposed raises will be part of a vote to consider adopting the 2020-21 budget at an upcoming meeting.
