11 Dallas police detectives test positive for COVID-19

Dallas police announced Tuesday evening that 11 detectives had tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday, bringing the department’s total positive cases to 50.

The 11 new cases are all detectives assigned to the evening shift of the department’s Crimes Against Persons’ robbery and assault units, working out of police headquarters or at the Dallas Public Library’s Park Forest branch.

All had removed themselves from their workplaces after exhibiting symptoms of becoming aware of possible exposure, the department said.

Additionally, 20 employees assigned to the units have been quarantined while they await test results or as a precautionary measure.

In all, 40 Dallas officers and 10 civilian employees have tested positive for the coronavirus. Twenty of them have returned to duty.
