Off-duty officer attacked after telling people to leave Far North Dallas pool, police say

An off-duty Dallas police officer was attacked after telling people to leave the pool area at a Far North Dallas apartment complex Thursday night, authorities say.

Officers were called about 9 p.m. to a report of a disturbance at the Allure apartments in the 4300 block of Horizon North Parkway, near West Plano Parkway and the Dallas North Tollway.

According to police, the officer was in plain clothes and was working for the complex at the time. He said that he had been attacked from behind by four men after telling people at the pool that they needed to leave and identifying himself as a Dallas officer.

The officer was later taken to a hospital for evaluation.

No suspects have been arrested, police said.

Police released this surveillance image Friday.

Mike Mata, head of the Dallas Police Association, told WFAA-TV (Channel 8) that an attack on an officer erodes the relationship between police and the community.

“It’s very unfortunate that an officer attempting to do his job was attacked in this manner for nothing else but being a police officer,” Mata told the station.

Anyone with information about the incident may contact Detective Brewster Billings at 214-671-3083 or brewster.billings@dpd.ci.dallas.tx.us.

Anonymous tips may be left by calling Crime Stoppers at 214-373-8477. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment in this case.
