Man fatally shoots man after carjacking attempt in William Blair Park, police say

A man shot and killed an armed man who attempted to take his car Saturday in William Blair Park, police said.

Officers responded to the park in the 3000 block of Municipal Street just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mark Piper, 51, told police that the man aimed a pistol at him and sat in the driver’s seat of his car. Piper, a concealed carry licensee, shot the man.

Police did not identify him.

Witnesses at the scene corroborated Piper’s story, police said. The case will be referred to a grand jury.
