Babar cannot be compared with past Pakistani legends: Latif

Karachi: Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has stated that current Pakistan’s best batsman Babar Azam cannot be compared with past Pakistan legends.

The 51-year-old said that the comparison is always done with the current best batsman and not the past.

“Nobody compared Babar with Sunil Gavaskar or Sachin Tendulkar as everyone compares with the current players like Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli,” Latif said on his Youtube channel.

“Babar has been a world-class player in all formats so once he reaches the level of Javed Miandad, Zaheer Abbas, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Younis Khan, he will surely be compared with them,” he added.

Latif said that he believes that Babar is capable of crossing 10,000 runs mark after Younis Khan. “For me, Babar is a player, who has the potential to score 10,000 runs after the batting great Younis. Although we have Test captain Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq yet both don’t have enough time to play and reach the milestone,” he added.

It must be noted that Babar urged fans not to compare him with Indian skipper Virat Kohli. “I don’t want to be compared with Kohli. It would be better if people compare me with one of the Pakistani legends like Javed Miandad, Mohammad Yousuf or Younis Khan,” Babar said.
