Man charged with killing 38-year-old son in DeSoto after grandchild reports incident to neighbor

A man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his 38-year-old son Friday evening in DeSoto.

Police received a call just after 10:30 p.m. from a resident of the 200 block of Rob Lane, near Hampton and Parkerville roads, who said a neighbor’s child had shown up at the front door to report that the child’s grandfather had just shot the child’s father.

Officers entered the home using a ballistic shield and encountered William Daniel “Bill” Moore, 58, who told police that his son was dead.

Police found Elijah Moore unresponsive on the utility room floor with multiple gunshot wounds; a handgun was found nearby. Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.

After determining that the elder Moore shot his son during a fight, officers took him into custody, police said.

The child was placed in the care of Child Protective Services.
