COVID-19 case numbers pass 5,000 in Oak Cliff, plus what’s open and where to get tested

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Dallas County has recorded 43,439 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 567 deaths, according to the county’s website.

ZIP codes in Oak Cliff have accounted for at least 5,200 cases, with 75211 in South Oak Cliff having the largest number of active COVID-19 cases in Dallas County and one of the area’s highest per capita rates.

Here are the confirmed cases in Oak Cliff ZIP codes as of Tuesday, July 21. Dallas County updates its case numbers every Tuesday and Friday.

Drive-through
  • Ellis Davis Field House: 9191 South Polk St., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday
Walk-up, no appointment required
  • Red Bird Mall/Westmoreland Park: 7222 S. Westmoreland Road, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Saturday or until testing limits reach capacity
  • Mountain View College: 4849 West Illinois Ave., 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Saturday, June 25.
Parkland clinic
  • The deHaro-Saldivar Health Center: 1400 N. Westmoreland Road, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday by appointment only for current Parkland patients who meet the medically necessary criteria. Patients can call 214-590-8060 or visit www.parklandhospital.com/COVID19testing.
Mobile testing

For residents who don’t have transportation to get to a testing site, the City of Dallas contracted with UrgentCare2Go. Residents must have been in direct contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 or have at least one of three symptoms: shortness of breath, temperature of 99.6 or higher or cough. Appointments can be scheduled between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., seven days a week by calling 1-888-601-0568.

What’s open or closed

Animal Services

Field officers remain active and online/curbside adoption services available.

Libraries

Libraries are closed to visitors, but a number of branches are offering curbside service. Visit the website for online materials or to request a pickup.

Parks and Recreation

All recreation centers and facilities are closed; parks and trails are open with social distancing enforced.

Water utilities

Dallas has suspended water disconnects until further notice. You can pay bills online, by phone, by mail or at Fidelity Express Pay locations.

Office of Community Care WIC Clinics

WIC clinics are holding telephone and virtual appointments and issuing benefits via mail.

Education

Dallas ISD is scheduled to start the 2020-21 school year on Aug. 17, but Superintendent Michael Hinojosa said that date is “pretty much in jeopardy.” Updates will be posted on dallasnews.com as soon as they’re available.
