Teen killed in hit-and-run near Bowie High School in Arlington

A teenager was fatally struck by a car near an Arlington high school Monday afternoon, police say.

Officers were called to the 2100 block of Highbank Drive, near Bowie High School, about 2:45 p.m. and found the teen with serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

According to police, two groups of people in separate cars had agreed to meet at the school for a fight.

The first car to arrive had about five occupants, police said. The second vehicle was driving erratically on the road in front of the school, then accelerated toward the first car.

Police think the occupants of the first car got out, thinking the car was about to be hit, but the second car swerved and hit the victim in the road.

That car fled after hitting the teen, police said.

Police did not release the victim’s identity but said he attended an Arlington ISD high school.
