Watch: Firefighters continue to battle massive industrial blaze in Grand Prairie

Fire crews are continuing to battle a massive blaze that broke out at a plastics plant in Grand Prairie early Wednesday.

The fire started around midnight after a power line fell onto plastic sheeting at Poly-America at 2000 West Marshall Drive, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported.

The materials caught fire, which spread through the facility, the department told the outlet. A rail car exploded, and the department said supporting towers for electricity lines are likely to collapse as the fire burns on.

As of around 6:30 a.m., crews had been on the scene for more than six hours, the outlet said. No injuries have been reported.

The department said no official evacuations have been ordered, but that people with underlying conditions should avoid the area.

NBC5 reported that people in the area said they were experiencing sporadic power outages. It’s likely that the fire will continue to burn for the rest of the day, the department told the outlet.

Video from the scene showed a huge plume of black smoke billowing into the night sky, and flames could be seen near electrical transmission towers.

Poly-America produces trash bags and other plastic products and says that it is “the most technologically advanced and largest recycler and compounder of polyethylene in the world.”
