Dallas County reports 195 new coronavirus cases and nine COVID-19 deaths

Dallas County officials reported 195 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, including 30 from June and July, and 56 from August.

Nine new confirmed deaths were also reported due to the virus. All had underlying high-risk health conditions.

Six had been critically ill in area hospitals: An Irving man in his 50s, a Grand Prairie man in his 50s, a Grand Prairie woman in her 50s, a Sachse man in his 60s, a Dallas man in his 60s and an Irving man in his 80s.

The remaining three included a Dallas man in his 80s who was a resident of a long-term care facility and who had been hospitalized; a Dallas man in his 90s who died in hospice care; and a Rowlett man in his 90s who was a resident of a long-term care facility and had been hospitalized.

In all, Dallas County has seen 73,055 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 3,026 probable cases. Separately, the county has logged 943 confirmed COVID-19 deaths and 10 probable deaths.

Of all county cases requiring hospitalization to date, two-thirds have been under 65 years of age, while about a third of all hospitalized COVID-19 patients have had diabetes as an underlying high-risk condition.

Meanwhile, about a quarter of the county’s 943 confirmed deaths have been associated with long-term care facilities.

More than 400 school-aged Dallas County children ages 5-18 were diagnosed with the coronavirus from Aug. 15-28, county officials said. About half of those 405 cases were high-school age students and/or projected to be enrolled in Dallas ISD schools.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported 214 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing the county’s total to 42,511. In addition, officials reported three more deaths from the coronavirus, bringing that total to 565.

The victims, all women with underlying health conditions, included an Arlington resident in her 80s, a Fort Worth resident in her 90s and another Fort Worth resident whose age “had exceeded 100,” the county said.

Officials also said new information indicated that a man in his 70s who died in May, previously listed as a Fort Worth resident, was actually a Keller resident. The county adjusted its tally accordingly.

Denton County

Denton County officials announced 92 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus, raising the county total to 10,514 in all. The county also lists 8,654 cases as recovered.

No new deaths were reported Friday, leaving the county’s death toll at 101.

Collin County

Collin County reported 108 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing that county’s total to 11,306. The tally includes 645 active cases and 10,661 recoveries.

The county also reported one new confirmed death from the virus, raising its total to 115.

In recent weeks, however, the county has said it lacks confidence in the data provided by the state.
