Frisco ISD restarting development of 12th high school this week

After delaying the start of construction on Frisco ISD’s newest high school in May, district officials have voted to resume building the new school.

The Frisco ISD Board of Trustees approved a partial guaranteed maximum price at a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, which will allow dirt placement and utility work to begin this week. The new campus will be built northeast of Teel Parkway and Dakotah Road, adjacent to the future PGA headquarters and golf courses.

District officials said they understand the importance of building this new school in a timely manner. Once student enrollment and building capacities were observed this year, the officials began to realize that Wakeland High School does not have the capacity to relieve Reedy and Lone Star high schools.

Attendance zones for the new school will be determined in fall 2021 with plans to open August 2022, according to a news release from the district.

While CORE Construction will continue to serve as general contractor, the district has said it will rebid contracts to ensure the best pricing possible. The contracts were originally bid in March, around the time COVID-19 hit North Texas.

The new school comes from a $691 bond package passed by voters in 2018. The projected cost for the school is $122.5 million.
