Tarrant County announces 13 COVID-19 deaths, 387 cases; Dallas County adds 156 cases, 4 deaths

Dallas County announced 156 more coronavirus cases and four new COVID-19 deaths on Saturday.

All of the cases are considered new except for one that is from April. Four of the new cases came from the state’s reporting system, while the rest were reported directly to the county health department.

The four people who died were all Grand Prairie residents who had been hospitalized: two men and a woman in their 60s and a woman in her 70s. Three of them had underlying health conditions, according to the county.

The latest numbers bring the county’s totals to 77,118 confirmed cases and 994 confirmed deaths.

Separately, the county has reported 3,799 probable cases and 11 probable COVID-19 deaths. Probable cases and deaths include people who had a positive antigen test (sometimes called rapid tests), had antibodies for the virus or had COVID-19 symptoms along with contact with someone with a confirmed case.

While other North Texas counties provide estimates for how many people have recovered from the virus, Dallas County officials do not report recoveries, saying it’s not a measurement used by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

For Sept. 6-12 — the latest reporting period for which data is available — the county’s provisional seven-day average of daily new confirmed and probable cases was 240, a drop from the previous reporting period. The figure is calculated by the date of specimen collection, the county says.

More than two-thirds of all confirmed cases requiring hospitalization so far have been in people under 65, and diabetes has been an underlying condition in about a third of all hospitalized patients, according to the county.

Of the county’s total confirmed COVID-19 deaths, about 25% are associated with long-term care facilities.

Statewide data

Across the state, 3,433 more cases were reported Saturday, along with 135 deaths from the virus. Texas has reported 686,068 confirmed cases and 14,848 fatalities.

The seven-day average positivity rate statewide, based on the date of specimen collection, was 6.93% as of Friday. State health officials said using data based on when people were tested provides the most accurate positivity rate.

The state also provides a positivity rate based on when lab results were reported to the state; that rate stood at 8.21% as of Friday.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported 387 coronavirus cases and 13 new deaths on Saturday.

The numbers bring the county’s totals to 633 deaths and 46,537 cases, including 3,173 probable cases. There have been 633 deaths, and 40,840 people have recovered.

According to the county dashboard, 220 people are hospitalized with the virus, while 40,840 people have recovered.

Collin County

Collin County reported 83 more coronavirus cases Saturday, bringing its total to 12,843. The county also reported one more death, lifting the death toll to 137.

Ninety 90 people are hospitalized with the virus, while 11,839 people have recovered.

Denton County

Denton County reported 60 more cases Saturday, raising its total confirmed cases to 11,501. No new deaths were announced, leaving the toll at 107.

The total number of people who have recovered from the virus stood at 9,870.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for other North Texas counties. Some of those counties may not report updates each day.

The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 1,543 cases, 25 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 3,018 cases, 47 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 4,192 cases, 66 deaths.
