1 dead in shooting at South Dallas apartment

A man was dead after a shooting at a South Dallas apartment Friday afternoon, police said.

Officers were called to a report of someone firing into the residence in the 2700 block of Elsie Faye Heggins Street about 5:40 p.m.

Witnesses believed someone was injured in the apartment, police said, but officers found a man dead inside. That man’s identity has not been released.

A short time later, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported, police attempted to make a traffic stop on someone matching a suspect description in the shooting.

The driver attempted to flee and struck police and Dallas Fire-Rescue vehicles, which were in the 2700 block of Elsie Faye Heggins for an unrelated call, then ran off. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

Police have not released any suspect information.
