Wolfe City police officer on leave after shooting; Texas Rangers investigating

The Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation after a Wolfe City police officer was placed on administrative leave following a shooting, the city announced Sunday.

The shooting occurred Saturday in Wolfe City, a town in Hunt County about 70 miles northeast of Dallas.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Lt. Lonny Haschel said in an email that the Texas Rangers were investigating the shooting at the request of Wolfe City police.

He declined to answer questions about what led to the shooting, or when and where the shooting took place, saying the police department would have to provide those details.

Wolfe City authorities did not respond to an email asking for information about the shooting Sunday evening.

A brief statement on the city’s Facebook page Sunday morning offered no details but said an officer had been placed on administrative leave while the Texas Rangers investigate.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks told the Greenville Herald-Banner that no Hunt County deputies were involved in the shooting, adding that his department was helping with the investigation of the shooting.
