Mesquite now has seen 63 residents die because of COVID-19 as the city, along with Dallas County and the rest of the state, continues to cope with the virus.
This week also saw the city cross the 5,000 mark of total cases.
Dallas County Chief Judge Clay Jenkins and other officials are cautioning against becoming careless as more businesses and activities reopen and temperatures become cooler, pushing people indoors where transmission may be more common. They also are urging residents to continue utilizing face coverings and to practice social distancing.
