Near record heat expected today

The mercury will continue to rise for one more day in North Texas with continued sunshine and near-record temperatures.

Saturday reached 88 degrees at DFW Airport. Today will be nearly 10 degrees hotter with highs in the upper 90s. The record high for DFW International Airport on Oct. 11 is 99 and was set in 1979.

The first of three cold fronts will move across North Texas on Monday. This will drop temperatures back into the mid-80s, but that is still above the normal high of 80. It will warm further on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A second cold front should arrive Thursday with a more significant cool down. And the third front, on the following Monday, will bring an even cooler shot of air.

But despite the cold fronts next week, no rain is expected for the next 10 days.
