Driver overturns car in Southlake Town Square while ‘attempting to show off to a girl,’ police say

Two streets in Southlake Town Square were temporarily closed Wednesday afternoon after a car hit a light pole and overturned.

According to Officer Brad Uptmore, the Southlake Police Department’s public information officer, the cause of the accident was not what you might think.

“Looks like the driver was at a stop sign and was attempting to show off to a girl, so he accelerated quickly (still not crazy fast), collided and drove up the pole, and then it kind of flopped over,” Uptmore said in an email.

The accident happened at the corner of Civic Place and Grand Avenue, across the street from City Hall, a location for early voting.

Despite increased traffic in the area, no injuries were reported.
