Grand Prairie teen took joyride to Tyler to meet a boy and ended up fleeing police, officials say

A 16-year-old girl from Grand Prairie drove more than 100 miles to Tyler this week to visit a boy, police say, and the visit ended with her in jail.

The teen ran a red light around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office told KETK-TV (Channel 51), and fled when a deputy attempted to pull her over.

A chase ensued, and she lost control of the Ford F-150 pickup she was driving and crashed, police said.

After the accident, she was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries before police said they called her parents, according to the TV station.

The teen was later taken to a Smith County juvenile detention center and charged with evading arrest/detention in a motor vehicle.

“She apparently snuck out of the house to see a boy in Tyler,” Sgt. Larry Christian, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, told the TV station.
