Temps dive into the 40s as rain increases Wednesday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Our cold front is on the move again, and that means we need to get ready for even colder and wetter weather Wednesday.

The cold front stalled over Southeast Texas for most of Tuesday, and at one time temperatures were in the 80s east of the front and in the 40s west of it! Temperatures will only drop a few degrees in most places overnight as light rain showers spread in from the Gulf.

As Hurricane Zeta passes safely to our east Wednesday, it will draw the cold front deeper into the Gulf of Mexico. With an upper-level storm pushing in from West Texas, widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely for several hours Wednesday as temperatures fall from the upper 50s at sunrise into the upper 40s by lunchtime. We do not expect any severe weather nor any flooding, but you will want your warm jacket and an umbrella! As the rain tapers off in the afternoon, the clouds will lift and try to clear late in the day. This will allow temperatures to climb back into the mid 50s.

Drier air is expected to move in for Thursday bringing cooler mornings and lots of sunshine. Strong winds wrapping around the upper level storm will likely prompt a Wind Advisory. You can expect sustained northwest winds at 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

We now expect morning lows in the 40s Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Sunshine will warm temperatures into the upper 60s and low 70s through the weekend.

Trick-or-treat weather will be fantastic, if not a little chilly. Sunday’s temperatures range will be just about perfect as sunshine warms temperatures from the 50s into the 70s. Another front arriving Sunday will sustain the pleasant weather through Election Day and beyond. You can expect lows in the 40s and 50s and highs in the 70s (with sunshine!) for most of next week.
